How to choose a quality corrugated board for the roof – key points

Professional flooring is a popular roofing material due to its strength, durability and affordable price. It is suitable for various types of buildings, including residential buildings, garages, outbuildings and industrial facilities.

However, in order for the roof to serve for a long time and reliably, it is important to choose the corrugated board correctly, taking into account several important parameters.

1. Type of corrugated board

Professional flooring is made of galvanized steel, and depending on its purpose, it is divided into several types:

  • Roofing corrugated board – used directly for covering the roof. It has a high wave and additional stiffening ribs, which makes it resistant to mechanical loads.
  • Bearing profiled flooring is even more rigid and is intended for industrial buildings, warehouses or structures with a large load capacity.
  • Wall profiled flooring – used for facing walls, fences and other vertical surfaces. It has a smaller wave and is not as high rigidity as roofing.

For the roof, you should choose a corrugated board specially designed for this type of work. It has a higher wave, which allows for efficient removal of water and snow.

2. Metal thickness

The thickness of the metal is one of the most important parameters of the corrugated board. It affects strength, durability and resistance to mechanical loads. Usually, it is recommended to use corrugated board with a thickness of 0.5 to 0.7 mm for the roof . Thinner corrugated board may not withstand heavy winter snow, and thicker decking will be more expensive, which may not be practical for small buildings.

3. Type of coverage

Professional flooring can have different coatings that protect the metal from corrosion and provide an aesthetic appearance. The main types of coverage:

  • Galvanized coating is the most affordable option, protects the metal from corrosion, but does not provide an additional aesthetic effect.
  • Polymer coating – polyester, pural, plastisol or other polymers, which not only protect the corrugated board from corrosion, but also give it different colors and textures. This coating is resistant to ultraviolet, aggressive environments and mechanical damage.

For the roof, it is better to choose a corrugated board with a polymer coating, as it provides a longer service life and looks more attractive.

4. Wave height and shape

The higher the wave of the corrugated board, the more load-resistant the material is. For roofing works, it is recommended to choose corrugated board with a wave height of 18 to 45 mm . Professional flooring with a high wave better drains water and snow, which is especially important in conditions of heavy precipitation.

5. Color and aesthetics

Although the technical characteristics are of primary importance when choosing a corrugated board, the appearance is also important. The polymer coating allows you to choose a corrugated board of different colors, which makes it possible to harmoniously combine the roof with the general style of the house. It is worth choosing colors that are resistant to fading and suit your architectural style.

6. Manufacturer’s warranty

Quality professional flooring should have a manufacturer’s warranty. This is an important aspect, since the guarantee indicates that the material has passed the necessary quality checks. The warranty period usually depends on the type of coating: a shorter warranty is given for galvanized corrugated flooring (about 10-15 years), and for corrugated flooring with a polymer coating – up to 30 years.

7. Installation features

When choosing a corrugated board, it is worth considering the ease of its installation. Lighter profiled flooring is more convenient to transport and install, but it is important to pay attention to the correspondence of the material parameters of the crate step. Also pay attention to the recommendations for the slope of the roof: some types of corrugated board are not suitable for roofs with a very small slope.

It is important to consider several main factors: metal thickness, coating type, wave height, manufacturer’s warranty and installation options. By choosing a quality material, you will ensure reliable protection of your house for many years, and also add an aesthetic look to your roof. Don’t forget to also consult with professionals regarding the correct selection and installation of corrugated board to achieve the best results.
